This is our first full dress rehearsal for our sxPanel project. We’re doing previews in Google+ hangouts of SXSW panels. The panels come from SXSW’s “PanelPicker” website. There are about 3,000 panel organizers vying for a spot with a panel at SXSW. Only a few will be chosen, but we will be giving both the winn

ers and losers a chance to webcast their panel proposals to a large audience on youtube, blip.tv, iTunes, Boxee, ustream.tv, justin.tv and more.

On Monday June 20, SXSW officially launched the SXSW PanelPicker process for choosing panels for 2012 SXSW Interactive with an awesome party at the Hangar in downtown Austin, TX. It was the ultimate mixer and the perfect social gathering. The SXSW PanelPicker is gathering programming ideas from their community for the 2012 season. Tammy and the rest of the SXSW crew trotted out “the new and improved SXSW PanelPicker interface” and gave out free drink tickets, and providing a great mixing ground.

The event was at the Hangar Lounge at 318 Colorado Street from 6:00–8:00pm on Monday, June 20. SXSW will be accepting proposals from Monday, June 20 until Friday, July 15. Online voting on these PanelPicker proposals will kick off Monday, August 15.

PanelPicker Editing Deadline Extended to Sunday, August 7

If you’ve already entered, validated and saved your SXSW PanelPicker entry, congratulations! If you are not quite ready yet to complete the entry form

, we have good news. The deadline for editing your proposal has now been extended until 11:59pm CT this Sunday, August 7.

If you still have questions about your proposal over the weekend, refer to this comprehensive PanelPicker FAQ. You can also try reading through this helpful post from earlier this week. Keep in mind, you must click the “MY PROPOSAL IS COMPLETE. VALIDATE THE FORM NOW AND SEND MY IDEA” check box, so we know your proposal is ready for consideration.

When your proposal is validated in the system, it’s time to gear up for the community voting process coming up August 15. Everyone who entered a validated proposal in the PanelPicker interface will receive communication from SXSW prior to the voting period. Be sure to check your spam folders and add panelpicker@sxsw.com, interpanels@sxsw.com, filmpanels@sxsw.com and musicpanels@sxsw.com to receive all SXSW programming-related communications.
